The idea for InTown Design & Studio and the BGDH Distinctive Herbaria®  

brand originated during the Covid-19 Pandemic, but born of an earlier time during the founder's childhood when she became intrigued by unusual pods that appeared at the edge of her grandparent's vegetable garden. Enjoying walks outdoors near her home close to a mountain forest, she enjoyed spotting varieties of tree and plant pods along the way. Later, as her interest in scientific and technical drawing grew, she recalled and researched sites to identify the specific garden pod from her childhood. The idea ignited to design and bring the outdoors inside with dried flower designs, including French lavender, wheat, and labeled tree and plant pods. Design ideas evolved and led to the creation of unique products that could be shared around the world. As an Amazon seller for two years with a four site-page storefront, she is now selling locally.

About the seller

While working in the technology industry during her full career with IBM and Hewlett-Packard, B.G.D. Hale was also a life-long art student and part-time oil painter. She studied from a young age and for seven years in evening classes with a professional artist. She earned degrees at night as well, while working full-time, studied art foundation in college, botanical and scientific drawing at the Atlanta College of Art, ConEd (now SCAD) and Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Chinese brush and watercolor painting from a visiting professor from China, and attended various medium-focused classes in the Atlanta area. She earned a Master of Science in Technical & Professional Communication, A. A. Art, and B.A. in English, graduate coursework in Information Architecture and Archival Studies, along with certificates from Human Factors International and Georgia Institute of Technology. She studied graphics, visual thinking, ethnography, and user-centered design, applying knowledge in her career field. Today, she is focused full time on creating and sharing her love of nature's gifts as founder of InTown Design & Studio with the registered trademark, BGDH Distinctive Herbaria ®.
